Tutoring
Online and in-person tutoring in writing, literature, history, public speaking, and the humanities.
subjects i tutor
Literature
I work with students on close reading, comprehension, interpretation, discussion, literary analysis, and writing about books with confidence and care.
Writing
I help students with thesis statements, paragraph structure, outlining, essay organization, grammar, clarity, revision, and the full writing process from idea to polished draft.
history
I tutor U.S. History, World History, historical reading, note-taking, essay writing, and the skills needed to understand causes, arguments, evidence, and context.
public speaking
I help students prepare speeches, organize their ideas, improve delivery, build confidence, and speak with clarity and purpose.
humanities support
Because many humanities assignments combine reading, thinking, discussion, and writing, I often help students connect these skills rather than treating each assignment in isolation.
Who i work with
I work especially well with:
- Middle school students
- High school students
- Homeschool students
- Students in classical or humanities-focused programs
- Students who need help with essays and written assignments
- Students who are bright but disorganized
- Students who lack confidence in writing or speaking
- Older students who need careful feedback on papers
online and in-person
I offer both online tutoring and in-person tutoring.
Online tutoring is available for students who want help with writing, reading, literature, history, public speaking, or essay revision from home.
In-person tutoring may be available for students in or near the West Monroe, Louisiana area, depending on location, schedule, and subject.
Sessions may focus on a current assignment, a long-term skill, test preparation, essay revision, reading comprehension, or general academic growth.
approach
My approach is patient, structured, and practical.
I begin by identifying the specific skill or difficulty that needs attention. Then I help the student take the next clear step: understanding the assignment, forming a thesis, organizing an argument, revising a paragraph, reading a difficult passage, or preparing to speak with confidence.
I do not simply correct work for students. I teach them how to think through the work themselves so that they grow in both competence and confidence.
credentials and experience
I hold a B.A. in History from Southern Arkansas University and have taught middle and high school students in writing, literature, history, grammar, and philosophy. Since 2021, I have served as a teacher and headmaster at Geneva Academy in West Monroe, LA.
My classroom teaching has been writing-intensive, and I have regularly helped students read carefully, build arguments, revise drafts, and communicate clearly. I have also designed literature and history curricula and provided detailed feedback on student writing.
I am also available through Wyzant, where my tutor profile lists writing, literature, history, public speaking, thesis writing, and related subjects.
